Athel J. Hu
(Founding Director, Principal Trainer and Therapist)
M.A. (Counselling); B.Soc.Sci (Sociology)
Athel is a trained counsellor and social science educator in Institutes of Higher Learning. Besides running Mentidote, Athel is also currently an Associate Faculty/Instructor at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. Prior to these appointments, she was an Instructor with the National University of Singapore, a lecturer with the Temasek Polytechnic and has held joint research appointments with the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and the National University of Singapore.
Academic Areas of Interest:
Mental health and social behaviour; Social science and medicine; Health and social behaviour; Social integration/isolation and mental health; Caregiving; Mental health stigma; Family systems.
Counselling areas and experience:
Youths and adults struggling with early life attachment issues; life transitions; interpersonal relationship issues; family related issues such as family strains and conflicts, loss and grief and caregiving support.
Main counselling approaches:
Interpersonal Therapy and Psychodynamic therapy.
